A thought from BroMama

As I was drying my hair this morning, I began thinking about how and why we label individuals. It occurs to me that both negative and positive labels have the potential to dehumanize an individual or group of individuals. When we do this, we may risk losing sight of what I believe is most important to remember-- we are all still individuals, no matter what labels society places on us. We have similar feelings, reactions, challenges, hopes and desires. As humans we really are very similar in so many ways; but, if we dehumanize each other we run the risk of giving ourselves permission to project our ideas, beliefs, attitudes and assumptions onto the label we have assigned. Rather than investing in becoming acquainted with the reality of the individual, we may accept for truth a fabrication that is a reflection of our very own subjective, collection of ideas.~Beck
