Bloom Where You Are Planted

When I graduated from high school one of my teachers said to me, "Bloom wherever you are planted." I have never forgotten the beautiful image those words conjured in my mind; however, reality quickly taught me that blooming where you are planted is not easy nor does it look as lovely as the picture in my mind.

Sometimes we don't land in particularly fertile soil. I remember a time when I was struggling to "bloom." I had all sorts of reasons why and was working up one heck of a pity party. As I was walking one afternoon, I came across a daisy blooming in the middle of a concrete sidewalk. Daisies happen to be my favoritie flower because they look cheerful to me.

I decided that if that cheerful daisy could figure out a way to bloom in the middle of concrete sidewalk and look so lovely, surely I figure out a way to make some changes so I too could bloom. After all, wasn't it Mr. Rogers who said, "You can grow ideas in the garden of your mind." There is always a way, even when the odds do not appear to be in our favor, this is always another way to look at the situation. There are always changes that we can make. Nothing says persistence and hope like a beautiful flower growing in concrete~Becky Bro
