The birth of a pearl is a miraculous event that begins when a foreign object such as a parasite or grain of sand finds its way inside the shell of an oyster. The intruder, though microscopic in size, is a source of irritation and pain to the soft body of the oyster. Unable to rid itself of the unwelcome intruder, the oyster seeks to reduce the irritation by secreting a smooth, hard crystalline substance around the irritant in order to protect itself.
This substance is called nacre, or mother of pearl. As long as the irritant remains within its body, the oyster will continue to secrete nacre around it, layer upon layer. Over time, the irritant will be completely encased by the silky crystalline coatings. And the result, ultimately, is the lovely and lustrous gem called a pearl.
How something so wondrous emerges from an oyster's way of protecting itself is one of nature's loveliest surprises. The nacre is not just a soothing substance. It is composed of microscopic crystals of calcium carbonate, aligned perfectly with one another, so that light passing along the axis of one crystal is reflected and refracted by another to produce a rainbow of light and color.
Like the oyster, each one of us will be exposed to irritants, sometimes on a subconcious level, that are an insult to our souls. As we look inside and become more aware, more conscious of these irritants, we can choose to soothe the soul in a way that covers the insults or irritants with spiritual nacre. Healing thoughts, actions, choices and behaviors provide the spiritual mother of pearl that coats the soul's irritants to offer relief from the pain. As these healing behaviors continue within the soul, spiritual pearls are formed. Light from the pearls illuminates our soul with wisdom-pearls of wisdom. These pearls of wisdom have the power to influence our entire way of seeing and interacting with the world around us.
It is important to remember that these pearls of wisdom have been nurtured, developed and protected by our soul over many years. They are a reflection of the spiritual battles that are waged in the most private recesses of our souls. These pearls are intimate and priceless. Very few individuals will be sufficiently prepared to understand, to appreciate and to respect their value. A familiar biblical verse warns, “Do not cast your pearls before swine, or the swine may trample them under foot then turn on you and tear you into pieces.”
As we grow spiritually we will have the ability to develop a discerning nature that we should tap into when individuals, drawn to our light, seek out our assistance. If we discern that they are not be prepared to receive wisdom of the soul, then it may be appropriate to offer kind words, encouragement and inspiration in the form of love, compassion, encouragement and empathy. We should never share soul-sacred information with anyone whose motives are self-serving and nefarious. In the wrong hands, pearls of wisdom may be twisted and manipulated in a manner that is hurtful and damaging.
There may be times that we feel drawn to someone and we do not understand why. This is when the skill of discernment will be especially important. Listen as your soul interacts with another soul. Positive soul interactions should activate energies that leave you feeling uplifted. If you feel your energy being drained or affected in a negative way, then you need to remove yourself from that person until you are able to determine what is causing the shift in your energy.
As you meditate, you may discover that this person has triggered something inside you, a realization about yourself that you need to work on. On the other hand, it could be that your soul is telling you something about this person. Listen carefully. All people deserve respect and love; but, some people you will need to love from a distance. We must protect our souls and their pearls of wisdom from harmful negative, toxic and dangerous energy.
Remember that we are not responsible for, nor are we capable of, changing anyone else’s human or spiritual nature. To believe that we are capable of affecting any change in someone else is an indication that our ego is offering a false narrative. All changes to an individual’s human nature happen on a spiritual level and must be worked out individually within the confines of each human soul.
Some individuals who cross our paths will be prepared and are desirous to receive wisdom from the soul. Finding themselves unable to soothe the hurt and pain caused by insults to their own souls, they are seeking healing influences. Upon meeting us they will recognize something familiar and will intuitively appreciate and understand the source of radiating beauty. It is that source that they desire to connect with in their own soul. They want to connect with their spiritual source of truth. Their desire to know will be for their own soul healing and expansion. As we share together each soul will be nurtured by the experience.
When the soul expands and grows, so too do our desires to seek to understand and to love others; to practice daily kindness; and, to have compassion and empathy for those we meet. These benevolent behaviors become a reflection of who we are. Taking care of our own soul and practicing discernment ensures that we are operating from a place of authenticity, positivity, energy and love. This allows us to remain connected to and in tune with our spiritual source of truth.
Nurturing our spiritual growth is perhaps the most selfless act we may offer humanity. Each time we go inside and apply soothing balm to the insults on our soul, our pearls are coated with light, love and healing truth about ourselves and humanity. Light from the wisdom of our soul is reflected and refracted creating a beautiful spiritual rainbow that is a blessing to everyone in our circle of influence. When you take care of your soul its sparkle will shine for the benefit of all.
